The Charleston House, a house in the exclusive Hollywood Knolls, was a highly collaborative project with the owners, a talented designer and a developer/builder. Together we completely reworked the existing home into a modern, expansive and luxuriously appointed space perfectly suited to the iconic Hollywood Hills lifestyle. |
The site offered incredible mountain and city-light views from almost every vantage point while the wooded surroundings anchored the property, offering shade and privacy. Large minimally framed windows were installed throughout to maximize the view and natural lighting opportunities. To further blur the lines between the interior and the outdoors, a large hinged glass door was installed in the front entrance and folding glass doors were installed in the open living space. This connection to the outdoors continues in the main living space, an open floor plan encompassing the kitchen, living room and dining area, which flows seamlessly into the terraced back yard where owners can enjoy leisure time with friends and family.
A key element of this project was to create more square footage without changing the physical footprint. By reworking unused basement and crawl spaces, the home's living space was significantly expanded -- adding a fully equipped home theater, upping the bedroom and bathroom count to four and adding modern updates like smart lighting, sound, temperature control and state of the art security.
